About HunterFisher

I have been involved with hunting, shooting and fishing for around 25 years. I guess you can say it's in my blood. I put this site together just to put some info out there that may be of use to a few of you.

This site is intended to be a general repository of information for someone getting into hunting and fishing, or seeking information about hunting and fishing in NZ and Australia.
Alternatively, as a potential visitor to NZ or Australia from other countries, you may gain some knowledge about what to bring and what to expect when visiting these shores.

There are cross-links to government departments and agencies for gaining permits and further information.

The links page also has contact details for gun and fishing dealers I have had experience with and recommend. I am not getting any kick backs from them; this is all information I have gained over many years of enjoyable hunting and fishing adventures in Australasia.

Feel free to register as a member to gain further access to video clips, how-to’s, and various online hunting and shooting resources. I am also going to be posting some reviews and field testing various equipment. The content of this site is indexed and you will find the search functionality useful.

September 2011 Update

Apologies for the lack of new content and updates. I am just in the process of a career change and trying to fit in fishing and hunting trips has kept me busy.
I have been doing quite a bit of Fallow Deer bow hunting but unfortunately not many deer have been hitting the deck. I don't have any photos to post.
However I have been doing quite a bit of deep sea jigging on the Gold Coast for Amberjack and Yellowtail Kingfish.
This is my favourite type of boat fishing!
The boat I have been going with is Paradise Charters and skipper Mike provides a great trip with, refreshments and lunch provided. The boat is beamy and he has some good jigging marks. Usually the rest of the guests are tourist types and will be bottom bashing or live baiting with the provided tackle.
We do plenty of drifts and I have been getting plenty of small Amberjack and Kingies. As I said the fish are only small, ranging to 6-8 kg. Still lots of fun and I have boated plenty in the three trips I have done.
The jig that seems to be doing the trick is a pink Blue Flame 320 gram.
I'm using a 5'2" Jig Wrex spin with 80lb braid and an older Stella HG 10,000 ( Lovely Reel ) Overkill really on these small fish but i'm ready incase something bigger comes along.
As I write this the LBG fishing should be firing up so i'm looking to head away next week.
I will let you know how I get on.
Cheers ....Rob
